First impression: understanding about it

Every animal living on this planet whether it’s big cat species, wolves or humans, each of these species have one thing in common which is instinct. These instincts have helped us humans to protect ourselves from dangers, identify our acquaintances and even procreate for the existence of our race. Now in this modernized world we have changed ourselves a lot. We still have some reminiscence of its innate characteristics still left in us. One of such innate factors is instinct and making an image about someone just by having a cursory look.

So all of you might have heard of the proverb “don’t judge a book by its cover” , have you really questioned why such a proverb exists in the first place? The simple reason for this is humans' habit of forming an image of someone or something just by looking at it, and this is so because of the function and wiring of our brain. Human brain is extremely calculative and judgy, right from the moment it receives an external stimulus via sensory organ of sight ie. in the eye , there is a rush in neurons, which makes our mind so alert that it immediately starts calculating various things about the person or thing in front of it, to judge whether it's a friend or a foe, safe or dangerous etc. The image which our mind makes is based on various factors like situation, environment , past experiences and inherent prejudice and forms an image of a person accordingly. Therefore, it’s quite natural for us to judge a person on his/her cursory look. This cursory look image which our mind stores about a person is known as a first impression.

First impression we form about anyone plays a crucial role in forming an image of that person. First impressions can be a major factor in achieving success in many critical areas of your life. Many of the students perceive someone with good first impression as a good looking person, but it is not true as First impression of a person is reflected by various other factors like-:

● Personality of the person.

● Command on the language skills

● Your basic manner

● Your confidence while addressing any issue or topic.

One who has good command on any one of the following things he/she will definitely leave a very good first impression on others.
